DASHER'S remarkable Recovery using Homeopathy - LIZ GRIMES

DASHER - emails to ClassicalHomoeopathyPets

Hi Everyone
I need some words of encouragement right now.  My dog Dasher has been under Magda's care for more than 2 years.  He made tremendous progress in that time.  Well, Tuesday night he got out of the fence--tore the wood off the privacy fence to get after something in the neighbor's yard.  Well, by the time I discovered that he is gone--he had been hit by a car! Injuries include a broken jaw, broken teeth, broken shoulder blade, bruising, abrasions and pneuomothorax, the pneumothorax was treated at the emergency vet and seems to be resolved. He spent all night in the emergency vet and all day the next day being moved from vet to vet to find one that could meet his needs.  Of course I immediately emailed Magda (2 AM when I got home from the emergency vet).   By the end of Wednesday, I was much much poorer and being told that my choice was to spend an additional $5,000 (which I absolutely don't have) or to put him down.  He was showing such a strong will to live and such a desire to be near me that I decided, with Magda's help, to bring him home.  I did this against the doctor's wishes--even had to sign a statement that I was doing this against medical advice and that they would not accept any responsibility for the outcome. Last night he was really glad to be home.  He slept all night and was quite comfortable.  Today has been more challenging--trying to keep him hydrated when his jaw is broken and he can't really lap much--he does not like the turkey baster water system.  He has eaten about half of his daily ration--what fun to puree tripe & liver & heart & lung. (I have to go buy another blender-already burned one up today!)  I am making his food really watery so that he is getting extra fluid that way.   Magda has been great--right there when I need her, great advice and truly supportive. I am just so tired!!  Trying to keep him comfortable, hydrated, feed, and clean and also making certain that the kids are also fed and taken to the places that they must be is almost overwhelming.  My husband is great--but working long hours.  My 13 year old is wonderful-but still a kid and must be taken to band and so forth.  Has anyone else faced anything of this magnitude and managed it at home?  Are there any tips or suggestions for what worked for you?

Please send healing energies to Dasher.  He has faced so much in his life and overcome it. He was a stray roaming the streets of a small town.  Matted so badly that he had to be shaved (what a funny sight to see a Borzoi/Collie mix shaved!), heartworm positive, skinny, starving.  He has overcome the damage caused by his vaccinations and heartworm treatment thanks to the work of Magda.  I really do feel that he can overcome this--I'm just scared and worried for him.

Thanks for "listening".

I just wanted to let everyone know that Dasher continues to make remarkable improvements.  Last night I was questioning my decision--today he is twice as good as he was yesterday.  He has eaten a normal portion of food -- spread out over the course of the day.  He is beginning to drink without me having to force it.  He is following me and lying around near me.  He does not want to remain in his crate.  I know that this is due to the remarkable people on this list sending the wonderful healing energies, the great care Magda gives and his strong life force and health prior to the accident.

A friend loaned me an electric meat grinder--sure does make the work much easier.  I have now ground enough food for 2-3 days in the time it took me to do one day in the blender and it does not have to be so very watery unless he needs it to be that way to get the fluids in him.

Again, thanks for all the support and help.  You folks ROCK!

Just a note to let everyone know that Dasher continues to make improvements.  It is going to be very slow gradual thing but he is healing.  Thanks to this group for all the suggestions, information and support. And a huge thanks to Magda for her knowledge, concern, skill and willingness to serve us.

My husband commented yesterday "If I was not already a believer in homeopathy, this would have made me a believer.  If I ever get his by a car, I know who I want treating me!"  I responded "Baby, if you ever get hit by a car, I'll make you all the Heart Smoothies and Tripe Milkshakes you can drink!"  He informed me that was plenty of incentive to stay out of the road!

I wanted to take a moment to let everyone know that Dasher continues to make a remarkable comeback!  He is eating his full daily portion (even though I have to grind it and mix it with lots of water for him to lap it up).  His digestion seems to be back to normal and is his elimination processes.  He still lies around and sleeps a lot but is more active with each passing day. He is still getting subQ fluids twice a day to ensure keeping him hydrated. I am finding it more difficult to keep him quiet--he wants to go outside and go up and down the stairs more than I think is healthy at this time.  Magda has been great--right there whenever I have needed her.  She has held my hand and helped me do what was necessary to keep him alive in spite of what the vets said was possible. The support and encouragement from this list has been great!  Thanks for being here for us.

As most of you know, 2 weeks ago my dog, Dasher, was hit by a car after breaking out of our fence. He suffered a broken jaw, broken shoulder blade, and punctured lung, lots of road rash and bruising.   The vet recommended very expensive treatments which we could not afford and we brought him home against medical advice.  With the help of Magda he continues to make remarkable progress.  I took him to my friend, a groomer, to have him shaved.  He is moving well enough I did not think that it would be too much stress on him.  So, he was bathed yesterday and shaved today.  He looks so much better with all the matted fur gone.  After his shave, I took him out for a potty break.  He has not held his tail high and "pranced" since his accident, well he did this afternoon!!  He was Mr. Stuff!  He is a collie/Russian wolfhound mix--so he is a funny looking dog to start with but now that he is shaved he is even funnier looking--but he doesn't know that.  He thinks he is cool stuff.

His limping is reducing nearly daily.  I have found that he can walk better on soft earth rather than pavement.  While bathing & shaving, I removed his muzzle (broken jaw).  He moved his mouth without the noises he had made before treatment with Magda.  His attitude continues to improve--to the point that some of his chronic disease issues (which had been gone for over a year) are beginning to return.

He is still receiving daily subQ fluids along with remedies as recommended by Magda, his food ground and mixed with water, lots of rest (even though now he wants to go outside with his buddies-our other 2 dogs).  We are really happy with the progress he has made!  Can't wait until he is walking with even less limp and I can take him back to the vet that wanted me to euthanize him because I could not afford her expensive treatments!

Well, it has been 3 1/2 weeks since Dasher was hit by the car and broke his jaw and shoulder, punctured a lung and generally got beat up pretty severely.  I brought him home against medical advice (spend more than $5K or euthanize was the medical advice I received).  Magda has walked with me through this process holding my hand as needed and this list has been supportive and encouraging in every way.  For all of that I am incredibly thankful.

Dasher is now going up and down a complete flight of stairs in order to go out into his backyard--doing this several times a day.  He is eating ground up raw foods mixed with lots of water.  He spends most of his day laying at my feet or insisting that I continue to love on him and pet him.  He has taken some playful stances with his 2 pack members--but has not actually played yet. But he has also taken some moves that tell his pack members that he is still alpha in spite of his injuries. His bladder and bowel action is back on track and normal. He hates his muzzle and works to get it off every chance he gets. He is still occasionally getting some sub Q fluids (this is probably more to make me comfortable than for him).  The more he moves the less he is limping.  If he is not outside with his pack members, he is off leash and can roam around the back yard under my supervision.  If the other 2 dogs are out there with him, then I keep him leashed--I don't want them to get rough and undo the hard work we have done so far.

I took his muzzle off and let him "eat/drink" his supper without it. The jaw looked like it was working perfectly normally--no clicking, popping, or awkward movements.  He was not happy when I wanted to put the muzzle back on.  He is constantly wagging his tail when he is with people.  He has bright happy eyes-except when I put his muzzle on him and then he looks like one sad puppy dog!  All of his scabs are gone and he has nice pretty healthy skin.  His fur is nice and shiny and soft--short since he was shaved to remove all the mats and tangles but very healthy looking.

All of this improvement without antibiotics, pain medication or surgery!  He did receive antibiotics and pain medication while at the emergency vet but has received only homeopathic remedies and raw food since the first 20 hours after the accident.  I do recognize that the emergency vet did save his life that night by removing the air from the chest cavity so he could breath (the arnica he received prior to the trip to the vet helped as well) and that the fluids he received helped fight off the shock.  The x-rays helped us know what needed to be done next.  But, Magda's expertise and care along with an incredible life force have brought him a long way!  I think we are really close to being back to some sense of normal!

We will have to have the 2 teeth that were broken at the gum line removed.  That will require surgery--but I will take him there, insist that he only receive enough anesthesia to prevent pain while the extractions are going on, and bring him home immediately after surgery and care for him here. Of course Magda will be involved in making sure that he has the correct remedy prior to surgery and following.

All of this and my cost (Magda, muzzles, subQ fluids & supplies, etc) has been less than 10% of the estimate from the vet for their services!  Homeopathy ROCKS!

Well, it has been just over a month since Dasher was hit by a car.  For the new folks, Dasher dug out of the fence on the night of April 8 and was hit by a car. I gave him a dose of arnica before I ever took him to the emergency vet.  He had a broken jaw, broken shoulder blade, collapsed lung and lots of road rash. The emergency vet pulled the air out of his chest and started him on fluids to stabilize him and fight the shock.  I brought him home against medical advice--they wanted very expensive testing and treatment that I could not afford or they suggested putting him to sleep.  With the help of Magda's expertise and the encouragement of this group he is doing great!  He had been under her care for chronic disease treatment for over 2 years, so he went into this with a strong basis of health and life force.

Dasher got his first chunks of spleen today.  Up to this meal all his meat was ground and mixed with water to make it easier to "drink".  I am going to introduce soft meats cut into chunks so he can slowly exercise that jaw. He is nearly normal in all his behaviors.  He wants to play with his pack members and gets disappointed when I won't allow him to play fight with them.  He is running with only a slight limp.  His bowel and bladder functions are completely normal again.  His attitude is still that of the dominant male in a pack.  He is quiet the attention hound--thinks he should get all the attention from anyone in the house.  He is very tightly attached to me and follows me all around the house.  His muzzle, used to hold the jaw in place for healing, drives him crazy.  He is trying to rub it off on everything.  I am letting him eat without the muzzle and spend some time in his crate without it.  I am still afraid of his getting rough with the other dogs if it is off.  The hair is growing back in the places where the vet shaved him--he looks great, nice and shiny and soft.

All that is left for him to be completely back to normal is to be eating his normal portion without me having to cut it up or grind it! That will come over the course of the next month or so.

Again thanks for all the support, encouragement and love over this time.

Peace

June 5, 2008

Well, it has been 8 weeks since Dasher was hit by a car and we were advised to put him down.  With the help of Magda and the support of this group we made it through it all in spite of broken jaw, broken shoulder, collapsed lung, broken teeth and multiple scrapes & abrasions.

This morning Dasher is outside with his pack running and play fighting!!!  He has complete use of his mouth (we still need to get those broken teeth removed next payday).  He is eating anything he wants--no more grinding food.  I still haven't introduced the hard bones he loves--he is only getting chicken bones but I need to move up to other bones--he gets any meat I am feeding the rest of the pack.  He smiles at me, pants, yawns and eats normally.  He no longer wears his muzzle.

He is no longer limping or knuckling under when he walks.  He runs and plays with the other dogs.  He is acting completely like his normal goofy looking self!

I hope to have time next week to take him to the vet that recommended putting him down and letting her see what a dead dog looks like :)

Through it all he only received homeopathic treatment and raw food--no pain meds, no antibiotics--once he was home from the vets.

Peace
Liz
